I’ve been a proud ambassador for Kite Optics for several years now. Kite is a Belgian family-run company that has been developing high-quality optical equipment for nature lovers since 1992. Over the years, the brand has become a trusted name among birdwatchers in Flanders, northern France, and far beyond.
What drew me in right away – and still does – is the combination of top-tier optical quality, well-thought-out ergonomics, and exceptionally strong, very personal after-sales service. This is a team of passionate birders who keep innovating and actively think along when it comes to solving real-world problems. You can feel that dedication in everything they do.
Kite Optics is based in Jabbeke, near Bruges, where every instrument receives its final finishing touches and undergoes strict quality control. And if anything ever goes wrong, you know your binoculars or scope will be professionally serviced there as well. That peace of mind really matters when you use your gear intensively, like I do.

Below, I’m sharing the optics I personally use, and why I choose these specific models as a nature photographer, both in Belgium and abroad.
APC Stabilized 60 ED – Spotting scope freedom without a tripod
This is without a doubt one of the most innovative pieces of optical equipment I’ve ever used: the APC Stabilized 60 ED, the world’s first handheld stabilized spotting scope.
As a nature photographer, I’m often on the move. I cover a lot of ground and want to observe quickly, without constantly setting up a tripod. With this scope, I can zoom up to 35× while the image remains rock-solid. It completely changes the way you observe in the field.
I’ve already used this scope extensively, including from a tripod on a boat in Svalbard. Despite vibrations and heavy movement, the image stayed incredibly sharp and stable, allowing me to spot polar bears from more than 10 km away.
- Razor-sharp detail, even at high magnification
- Perfect for distant birds, wildlife observation, or assessing light and behavior
- No tripod needed → lighter, faster, more flexible
The active stabilization system corrects even the tiniest movements in real time. The result almost feels like the image “locks” into place. Combined with the software, even the typical “looking through a scope” feeling fades away, letting you focus fully on nature.
Practical details from my use
- Magnification: 17–35× – ideal for scanning large areas without missing detail
- Weight: approx. 1100 g
- Large focus and zoom wheels → easy to use, even with cold hands
- Up to 30 hours of use on a single USB-C charge = months of viewing pleasure
- Modular system, making expansion or combinations logical and budget-friendly

APC 14×50 ED – maximum stability for long-distance observation
This is my most powerful pair of binoculars and my go-to choice when stability and detail really matter. Rugged, waterproof, and built for years of intensive use.
At 14× magnification, even the slightest movement becomes visible. Thanks to image stabilization, you get a perfectly sharp, steady image, making long observation sessions far more comfortable.
- Details remain clear, even at dusk
- Ideal for open landscapes, wetlands, and sky observation
- Less eye strain, so you stay focused longer
The lenses and coatings deliver high contrast and very natural color reproduction. Even in low light, the image stays bright and lively – something I really appreciate as a photographer when judging conditions.
Practical in my setup
- Magnification: 14×
- Objective lens: 50 mm
- Battery life: up to 38 hours
- APC mode: automatic sleep and wake
- I use the AA battery version (very handy in remote areas)

LYNX HD+ 8×30 – light, fast and always with me
Not every situation calls for stabilization or extreme magnification. For many moments, I rely on the KITE LYNX HD+ 8×30: a classic, non-stabilized binocular with excellent optics in an ultra-compact format.
This is the binocular that’s always in my bag – or even in my jacket pocket. It’s light, quick to use, and delivers a razor-sharp image with an exceptionally wide field of view.
- Perfect for quick observations
- Ideal in forests, reed beds, or from a hide
- Easy to use one-handed
- 8× magnification for a sharp, natural view
Color reproduction is extremely true to life, and the wide field of view makes following birds or animals intuitive and relaxed. This is a binocular you don’t really “notice” – you just use it.
Why I keep choosing it
- Saves weight
- Fully waterproof
- Compact without compromising on quality
- 30-year warranty
