LOOKING FOR MIGRATORY BIRDS
When birds are on their annual migration to the south, they land in Hortobagy, a famous migration stopover site. We aim for open plains, water and brushes. Prepare for some intimate photography sessions with cranes, stilts, waterfowl and even singing birds!
Extensively managed grazing lands and hedges are full of life: pipits, buntings and several species of woodpeckers are just some birds on our photography menu. Get ready for many surprises!
UNIQUE: HIDES FOR CRANES
To obtain a very close and intimate point of view of the cranes, we use flexible hides. The cranes usually don’t mind these ‘camouflaged bumps’ in the landscape, allowing us to come close without being bothered.
Hide photography is one of the most exciting ways to photograph birds. You can fully unleash your creativity, choosing your own light, distance, background, … all in your own hide.
If this is new for you, count on an extensive initiation. Get ready for one of the greatest experiences you can have behind your lens!
GREAT CONDITIONS
We get up very early each day and return late, so we can use the best light available. Time flies by with all the bird activity in front of our hides, so prepare for long days and full memory cards. It’s still fairly warm this time of year but can be quite cold in the morning, so bring warm clothes as well. We’ll provide you with a list of all the necessary materials.
ACCOMODATION AND TRANSPORT
We remain as flexible as possible during this trip, responding to the opportunities presented by the bird migration, water levels and weather. We have a network of very decent hotels and restaurants close to every photography location. Where to sleep and eat is often decided only a day in advance.
Transport is arranged by minibus, so we can get close with camera’s, lenses and hides without carrying all our material around.
International flights are not included in the price. We’ll inform you about the best flights available; prices are around 250 to 400 euro per person.
