No better place to photograph birds in the summer than Slovenia. Young birds are massively exploring the waters. We concentrate on river wetlands, open water, moors, marshes, meanders,….
Slovenia removes all boundaries. The places where we enter the water are very natural and sheltered, attracting birds in abundance. You will capture many target species, but be prepared for surprising encounters!
SLOVENIA: NEW SURPRISES EVERY DAY
Every birdwatcher knows there’s plenty to expect this time of year. Prepare for several species of grebes, ducks, terns, waders and herons, …
There’s also plenty to photograph out of the water! While small mammals, woodpeckers and songbirds are hiding in the reeds and meadows, ospreys fly by over the water.
HYDROHIDE: A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE
To approach waterfowl undisturbed and obtain a stunning point of view, we use hides that float on the water. A pair of waterproof waders allow us to walk in the pool, approaching birds from a hide inconspicuously.
Have you ever worked with a floating hide on one of my trips or workshops? Then you know that this is the best way to photograph birds. You can fully unleash your creativity, choosing your own light, distance, background, … and have your own hide. We’ll explore different waters.
If this is new for you, count on an extensive initiation. Get ready for one of the greatest experiences you can have behind your lens!
A WIDE RANGE OF LOCATIONS
On this trip, we explore the other side of Europe with its far more pristine nature. We have chosen some of the wildest areas for our floating hide adventure, where we are guaranteed not to be disturbed while photographing the birds surrounding us.
These swamps constitute a very dynamic habitat, attracting many beautiful bird species. There are many locations to choose from every day, depending on the water level.
ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSPORT
We’ll be staying in a local family hotel. Hot meals are very decent and transport is arranged by minibus.
As a team, we will determine to travel by car or by air. Flights or rental cars are not included in the price.
CLOTHING, CONDITION AND GEAR
During this trip, we use the Mr Jan Gear floating hides. We organise as many photography sessions as possible during this trip, which means early mornings in the water. We take a break at noon, and go back into the water in the late afternoon, where we remain until sunset. Dinner in our restaurant marks the end of our day. Prepare for long days and full memory cards.
Wading through the water can be comfortable in middle-level water, but more challenging with very low or higher water levels. As stated, there is a wide range of locations so we will vary a lot.
Take plenty of warm clothes on this trip. We’ll provide you with a list of needed materials and a pair of waders if you wish, but we advise every participant to bring their own waders.
