Schedule
This morning we’ll photograph from one of Europe’s finest scavenger hides. Expect spectacular close encounters with Griffon Vultures, Red Kites and, with a little luck, Red Foxes.
Depending on the length of the morning session, we’ll either enjoy a picnic lunch in the field or return briefly to the hotel before heading out again.
Around 5:00 pm we settle into our otter hide overlooking a beautiful stretch of river, where the elusive Eurasian Otter is regularly observed. As daylight slowly disappears, we’ll enjoy one of the most atmospheric photography sessions of the trip, continuing well into the evening.
Wildlife photography is all about patience—and every encounter is different.
This morning we return to our Golden Eagle and European Wildcat hide, giving everyone the opportunity to capture new behaviours, different light conditions and even stronger images than before.
After a relaxing coffee break and lunch at the hotel, we head to a different forest hide to photograph additional species of woodpeckers and woodland birds, adding even more variety to your portfolio.
We start the day with another session at our renowned scavenger hide, making the most of the excellent opportunities for dramatic raptor photography.
In the afternoon, we swap the hides for a true wildlife adventure as we explore the spectacular Anciles Valley by 4×4. This remote valley is one of the wildest corners of the Cantabrian Mountains, offering breathtaking scenery and excellent chances of spotting Iberian Ibex, Cantabrian Chamois, Red Deer and a variety of birds of prey.
Our final full day is dedicated to one of Europe’s most iconic predators: the Iberian Wolf.
From early morning until late afternoon we’ll explore the remote mountain landscapes of the Cantabrian Range, searching for resident wolf packs against a backdrop of snow-covered peaks and pristine winter scenery.
Over the past few winters we’ve enjoyed encouraging success in locating and photographing these magnificent animals. As always with truly wild wildlife, sightings can never be guaranteed—but every moment in wolf country is an unforgettable experience, and we’ll use all our local knowledge to maximise our chances.
After an incredible day in the field, we return to the hotel for our farewell dinner and final overnight stay.
After breakfast it’s time to say goodbye to the Cantabrian Mountains.
We check out of the hotel and begin our journey home, taking with us unforgettable memories, spectacular images and, hopefully, a portfolio filled with some of Europe’s most iconic wildlife.

A week packed with unforgettable encounters
During seven days we’ll explore carefully selected photography hides and wildlife hotspots throughout the region.
Early mornings are dedicated to one of Europe’s most exciting hides, where Golden Eagles and the elusive European Wildcat regularly appear in front of our lenses—a truly unique combination found almost nowhere else.
Afternoons take us deep into the forests, photographing colourful woodpeckers and a wide variety of woodland birds before the light fades.
We’ll also spend time inside one of Europe’s finest vulture hides, where Griffon Vultures, Red Kites and Red Foxes provide spectacular close-up opportunities. As the day comes to an end, we’ll head to the river in search of another local celebrity: the Eurasian Otter.
The ultimate highlight: searching for the Iberian Wolf
One day is entirely devoted to one of Europe’s most legendary mammals.
We’ll venture deep into the snowy Cantabrian Mountains in search of the region’s resident Iberian Wolf packs. Every encounter is different and, as always with truly wild animals, nothing can ever be guaranteed—but the possibility of seeing and photographing wolves in this breathtaking winter landscape is an experience you’ll never forget.
4×4 wildlife safari
Another highlight is our 4×4 wildlife safari through the spectacular Anciles Valley, one of the wildest corners of the Cantabrian Mountains. Here we’ll look for Cantabrian Chamois, Iberian Ibex, Red Deer and a variety of birds of prey against dramatic mountain scenery.
If you’re looking for a wildlife photography adventure that combines spectacular landscapes, rare European mammals, expert guidance and exclusive hides, this is the trip you’ve been waiting for.
Accommodation, Transport & Meals
Throughout the tour, we’ll stay in a comfortable, characterful local hotel that offers an authentic taste of rural northern Spain. It’s the perfect base from which to explore the spectacular Cantabrian Mountains.
Meals are traditional Spanish cuisine: honest, hearty and full of local flavour. In the mountains, dishes are often simple and rustic, but always freshly prepared and satisfying after a day spent in the field.
All transportation during the tour is provided by comfortable minibus on well-maintained roads.
International flights are not included in the tour price. Once the departure is guaranteed, we’ll gladly recommend suitable flights. Return flights typically cost between €250 and €350 per person. You’re welcome to book your flights through STARLING or arrange them yourself.
