2025: A year for unforgettable floating hide adventures

Happy New Year to you all, especially to those with a big heart for nature!

The year ahead is full of potential, and I can’t wait to share it with you. If you want to take your nature photography to the next level, then join me on one of my photography expeditions and let 2025 be the year for you!

Those who know me, know that floating hide photography is one of my favourite techniques. From the start, I’ve been a passionate ambassador for Mr Jan Gear – specialising in this technique and the top-quality gear that makes it possible. There’s something about getting down low, right on the water’s edge, that gives you a unique perspective. You’re not just observing the animals, you’re immersing yourself in their world, blending in, and capturing them in their natural habitat, undisturbed. There is nothing like it.

This year, I’m leading three incredible trips dedicated to floating hide photography. If you’re ready to dive deep into stunning landscapes, connect with wildlife up close, and walk away with jaw-dropping images, this is your chance. Don’t miss out!

  1. Kazakhstan (17-24 May 2025)

Kazakhstan is one for the books. You’ll get the chance to photograph thousands of shorebirds, ducks, and other waterfowl in one of the most remote, unspoiled regions on the planet. This trip will take you to vast, open steppe lakes, where migratory birds gather in spring. And we’ll use floating hides to get as close as possible without disturbing them. Trust me, this trip will offer some of the most unique photo ops you’ll ever have.

2. The Camargue, France (30 May–7 June 2025)

The Camargue is an absolute hotspot for birdlife, and it’s the perfect place to capture some seriously stunning shots with a floating hide. We’ll be capturing everything from colourful waders to graceful herons, all set against the beautiful marshes of this Mediterranean gem. With a small group of just five, this is an exclusive opportunity to fine-tune your bird photography in one of Europe’s most biodiverse environments.

  1. Slovenia (9–17 August 2025)

Slovenia in the summer is nothing short of stunning. Picture this: endless wetlands, vibrant birdlife, and the chance to get extremely close to wildlife, all while floating quietly on the water in our hides. From ducks to grebes to ospreys, there’s no shortage of wonderful species. Working with floating hides in these natural settings, you’ll experience full creative freedom. We’ll be in the water from dawn to dusk, so prepare for long, rewarding days.

These trips are hosted by Starling Reizen; if you would like to read all about them in Dutch, please visit the Starling website.

Floating Hides are a game-changer

If you’ve never worked with floating hides before, get ready for a whole new level of wildlife photography. You’ll be in the water, as close to the action as you can get, without scaring the birds off. It’s the perfect way to capture wildlife at eye level, with the freedom to move around and choose your perfect shot.

I’ve been using floating hides for over 25 years, and I’m still just as excited about them as when I first started. There’s nothing like getting that perfect shot, whether it’s a heron in flight or a family of ducks paddling past. So join me, and I guarantee you’ll walk away with memories and images you’ll never forget.

Let’s make 2025 a year to remember!
